Resumo | The generation of spacecraft operation plans in space missions is a labor-intensive process, carried out manually by a highly specialized staff. Each command of the operation plan performs a low-level task, and it is usually necessary wide command sequences to achieve highlevel goals. Many factors shall be considered in-depth: the current and future state of each subsystem, time and resource constraints, the spacecraft attitude, orbit position, mission phase, etc. In order to reduce operation costs and increase the ground automation and onboard autonomy of its missions, some space agencies have been developing and using tools that apply Artificial Intelligence Planning and Scheduling (AIPS) techniques. Following this trend, the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research is carrying research & development projects for AIPS applications, both in the ground and space segments. For the space segment we created an onboard replanning system, called Resources Allocation Service for Scientific Opportunities (RASSO), which is capable of modifying the current operations plan of a scientific satellite to reallocate resources (e.g. power, memory) in opportunity situations. This paper reports the RASSO development, its lessons learned, and how an Internal State Inference Service (ISIS) is being created based on these lessons. ISIS purpose is to provide a tool not only for onboard planning applications, but also for diagnosis and prognosis, and even for ground-based spacecraft simulation and mission operations planning systems. To achieve this, it comprises a Space System Model (SSM) which has state inference, resources profiling, constraint propagation and simple temporal networks features. The paper also describes the knowledge representation language used to create a SSM instance, and how ISIS relies on ECSS Packet Utilization Standard services to interface with the rest of the onboard software. |
